The original EverTheNomad blog was born in 2008 and lived happily until early 2014. It had a rich and exciting life, which featured fun series like guest posts from expats writing about their adopted homes (from Santiago to Gabon), an interview series called Local Voices Croatia and Global Glimpses that showcased snapshots and mini-stories from my travels. It supported several Passports with Purpose fundraisers, brought me many friends I still keep in touch with and provided a platform for writing whatever and however I pleased. It lives on in these pages. Please poke around.
In February this year, I went to Angola for the first time to visit my partner's home country. We spent ten days exploring this incredible southern African land, all the way from the coastal capital of Luanda to the provincial city of Lubango in the mountains of the country's south. Hoji just put together a...
This week, the guest post series takes us for an offbeat journey, to a destination far off the tourist radar: Kyrgyzstan. Our guide around this Central Asian country is Carl of Two Stops Past Siberia, who is on a two-year Peace Corps mission in Naryn, the main city of Kyrgyzstan's largest province. DEEP IN KYRGYZSTAN...
International Traveller suitcases For years and years, to the surprise of friends and family, I traveled all around the world with a big backpack or, on short-haul trips, a sports bag. There was a strange resistance to wheeled suitcases that I stuck to passionately and managed to keep until just a few months ago. You'll...

I walked away from my recent trip to South Africa emotional, contemplative, quiet. While my first ever safari experience, in Sabi Sand Game Reserve, was one of the most adrenaline-filled fun jaunts of my worldwide travels, what really touched me – more than South Africa's pristine bush and its wild animals – were the people....
I've wandered many markets of the world – strolled through the souks of Morocco, roamed the rickety stalls of Phnom Penh's Russian Market and shopped for talismans at the Witches' Market in Bolivia's La Paz. Each one has its own personality, its style and charisma, its particular way of being. Each reflects the living culture...
After a short break in the guest post series, due to my intense travels around Africa over the last three weeks, we're back with a post by Trudy of The Innkeeper's Tail, an American expat living and working in Guatemala City. Trudy takes us on a tour of Guatemala, for a look at the local...
I've returned from South Africa this morning, after a 20-day journey around Africa. Both portions of the trip – Angola and South Africa – were equally intense, in different ways. It will take some time to sort out the experiences in my head, still spinning with impressions. I expect a series of blog posts about...
