Welcome to the EverTheNomad blog! My name is Anja. I'm a New York-based travel writer who also takes an occasional good photo. Whether I'm traveling through the back roads of some faraway country or sitting in my Brooklyn apartment on a rainy night, this is where I share my thoughts and impressions.

Introducing Local Voices Croatia

Zagreb door, 2007

There’s been a long silence on this blog. I won’t go into what has caused the pause. You likely know the spiel: lack of time, need for cash=taking on too much work, a bit of a blog burnout… The usual combo that makes many a blog bite the dust.

But this blog is back and awake, and I am excited to introduce a brand-new series: Local Voices Croatia.

As of last week, Croatia is my official residence for the next few months. While here, I’ll be combining both travel writing and creative work, as well as squeezing in some play and family time.

As a result of this temporary switch from New York to Croatia, thought I’d explore my homeland through the eyes of locals.

With the country poised for entry into the EU next year, Croatia has incredible people power, as befits a country in transition.

I have seen this power grow and intensify over the last couple of years, leading to a profusion of super-cool places, ideas and projects. Croatia has top creative talent, on many a front – from food and art to music and fashion – just waiting to burst onto the scene.

My new series, Local Voices Croatia, will profile people who are making a difference, the masterminds behind interesting places, projects and events. I’m talking artists, visionaries, foodies, adventurers, nature enthusiasts… The creative cream of Croatia, so to speak.

To make this series interesting *and* useful, each interview will include tips & tricks you can use and bits of local knowledge that will inform your next visit to Croatia. Or at least whet your appetite.

And all that as Croatia prepares for another summer season, the height of its tourist year. So stay tuned as I prepare the first batch of interviews for Local Voices Croatia. The inaugural one coming shortly!

Glad to see you back blogging :) I too love re-discovering my hometown after a long time abroad. I feel I can look at the places I thought I knew with “foreign” eyes and local knowledge at the same time.

Thank you, Angela! :-) Exactly. I came across this quote the other day, which is exactly about that: “The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.” – G.K. Chesterton

    The rediscovery should be interesting.

Thanks for letting me know that the blog is back up and running. I’ll be looking forward to the articles as it’s really the best way to see a country, through the eyes of the locals.
