An avid fan of urban renewal, I’m always on the lookout for industrial spaces being refurbished for a creative purpose. Just such a space is currently underway in Lisbon: LX Factory. This former fabrics factory on the Tagus River in Alcântara is being converted into a multipurpose space that will host various creative activities and events. The first of these happenings, TEST, with sound installations and film projections, is scheduled for 29 March. But the real big deal is the upcoming OFFF Festival, International Festival for the Post-Digital Creation Culture, which kicks off on 8 May at LX Factory. Barcelona has been hosting this cutting-edge event since 2001; this is the first time it takes place in Lisbon. The three-day festival showcases top digital artists, web, print and interactive designers, motion graphics studios, and new music adventures.
