The original EverTheNomad blog was born in 2008 and lived happily until early 2014. It had a rich and exciting life, which featured fun series like guest posts from expats writing about their adopted homes (from Santiago to Gabon), an interview series called Local Voices Croatia and Global Glimpses that showcased snapshots and mini-stories from my travels. It supported several Passports with Purpose fundraisers, brought me many friends I still keep in touch with and provided a platform for writing whatever and however I pleased. It lives on in these pages. Please poke around.
On this historic day, inspired and humbled by Barack Hussein Obama's inauguration speech earlier today, I sit in my Brooklyn apartment still thinking of his words. As a traveler who has witnessed suffering in various parts of the globe and harsh inequalities this world is plagued with, I feel grateful that the speech showed a...
In the winter of 2007, I spent three months living in Buenos Aires. However much I love that city, one of the fondest memories of my South American sojourn was a trip to Cabo Polonio, a magical village on the eastern coast of Uruguay. I first heard about Cabo from a friend who grew up...
A few years back, I spent New Year's Eve with friends in Los Cabos, Mexico, on the southern Baja peninsula. While it was a lovely gathering and a relaxing beach holiday, I wasn't so taken with the area's touristy development. Sure, there's something nice about sitting on the beach and drinking cocktails by the pool...

With no special plans on Christmas day, I took a little trip with friends down to Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn. Walking along the shore of this once prosperous fishing community, I never would have guessed this was New York City. It felt like we traveled far beyond the city limits while, in fact, it was...
The Passports with Purpose fundraiser has only ten days to go and $475 to raise! So, I just wanted to remind everyone that a $10 raffle ticket towards one of the great prizes contributes to a variety of amazing charity projects by Heifer International. If you're still unsure what you're giving your money for, maybe...
Patagonia has been on my mind the last couple of days. Perhaps it was sparked by the email I received from a friend requesting travel tips or the article I read about an Indian tribe in Chile, the nomadic Kawesqar, facing extinction. Images of the vast landscapes from the end of the world keep flashing...
I come from a country that doesn't exist. Yugoslavia is no longer, apart from in our memories – and in the food that lives on. In New York, you can travel to almost all the former Yugo republics and sample the specialties that once made our country so unique and varied. Let's start with Bosnia....
A couple of days ago, I blogged about Passports with Purpose, a travel blogger-driven fundraiser for Heifer International, a nonprofit organization that seeks to eliminate hunger and poverty around the globe. With an entire community of travel bloggers behind this inspiring initiative, it wasn't enough just to write a few words about it. I decided...
In recent months, I've received a number of emails from friends and friends of friends looking for advice on honeymooning in Croatia. So I thought a post on romantic Croatia would be a good reference for any future inquiries. First, why Croatia for your honeymoon? It has beautiful ancient towns with well-preserved architecture; charming accommodations;...
